A birthday and fear come true.

So It’s been a little bit of a roller coaster the past few days.

I’m not gonna sugar coat it at all.

It was my birthday yesterday which I don’t really care much about.

But then later on in the day I got a call from my mom and it wasn’t the type of phone call I was expecting after a “Happy birthday!”

Last year she came to stay with me for about 6 months and within a few days I realised something was off. I wasn’t sure but I knew.

She went back home and everything seemed cool. I went DEEP down the rabbit hole of my suspicions.

I’ve read more books on the human brain and the way it operates and degenerates over time, especially if you’re getting older.

During the phone call when I happened to speak to my Aunt, who also happened to wish me a happy birthday…

The next few words out of her mouth confirmed it.

“Your mom has early onset dementia.”

I’m not one for crying but hearing those words choked me up because the signs and symptoms she had when she was over here is what confirmed it.

And so I’m sitting here writing this and I really don’t feel any way.

But what hurt the most was hearing my mom apologise for having dementia. Of all things. She said sorry to me. That fucking destroyed me.

I really don’t know what else to do but keep writing and keeping on going but man it’s not something I was planning on sharing.

On the plus side. It’s too early to tell how bad it can get and so it could be another 20 years until it fully develops and worse case scenario it hyper accelerates and well. That’s the part I’m dreading.

If you’ve stuck around long enough to be apart of my world. I appreciate you. It means a lot.
